Summer Completion Academy

Summer Bridge Program

About the Academy

Summer Completion Academy is a rigorous one-week program that allows First-Time Freshmen admitted into Tennessee State University for fall 2018 the opportunity to complete one Learning Support Requirement based on ACT/SAT scores while receiving quality instruction, college success information, campus and peer engagement, and academic development. Students will be able to choose the Learning Support Requirement they wish to complete (Writing, Reading, OR Math) during the week of their attendance.

What are the dates of SCA?

SCA is offered in three, one-week sessions. Students can remediate one area of Learning Support (Writing, Reading, OR Math) per week of SCA.  Students can attend more than one week of SCA to remediate additional Learning Support Requirements.

Session 1: June 10 - 15, 2018
Session 2: June 24 - 29, 2018
Session 3: July 8 - 13, 2018

How much does it cost for the academy?

The attendance fee for each session is $125, which includes program fees and meals.  For example, a student attending Session I would pay an attendance fee of $125; a student attending Session I and Session II would pay attendance
fees of $250.

Is the academy a residential program?

Housing will be available for those students choosing to stay on campus, but students may also attend who live locally and choose not to stay on campus.  The housing fee to resident on campus for SCA is $125 per session in addition to the attendance fee. For example, a student attending Session I who chooses to stay on campus would pay a housing fee of $125; a student attending Session I and Session II who chooses to stay on campus for both sessions would pay housing fees of $250.

When should we be there?

The first activities of (SCA) will start on Sunday afternoon.  There will be an opening ceremony for students and parents that will cover expectations of the academy, the schedule of the week, and the opportunity to meet instructors and campus administrators.

Will students be able to leave campus at night?

Due to the rigorous schedule of SCA, students will not be able to leave campus. Students must receive permission from the Director to leave campus in the event of an emergency.  We will confirm the emergency with parents and/or guardians.

Where will students stay and what will they eat?

Students participating in our camp who choose to reside on-campus will live in our on-campus Residence Halls. Students will receive a key to their room and an ID card which must be worn at all times while on campus. The ID card will also have their meal plan on it. All students participating in the academy will eat in our main cafeteria for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

What will a day look like in the academy?

The day will start early with breakfast at 7:30 am and a morning debrief meeting where you will learn more about TSU history, the alma mater, and other TSU items.  Students will then start classes for the day from 9 am - 12 pm.  Students will have lunch and then complete study hall/lab time and a college success workshop until 4:30 pm. Students will have dinner after their workshop.  Students residing on campus will have the option to participate in an engagement activity with SCA Peer Leaders. Lights out at 11 pm each night!
